In microreactors, mixing can be challenging due to the laminar flow conditions under which is typically operated. For many applications involving formation or handling of solids the use of passive mixing elements is prohibited because of the risk of fouling. In the present project, acoustic streaming is applied to enhance mass transfer by several orders of magnitude in microreactors. Also acoustic radiation forces are exploited to enrich and separate micron-sized particles and droplets.
