In pursuit of ever better analytical separation and chromatography systems

In pursuit of ever better analytical separation and chromatography systems, we aim at a better understanding of the methods and systems currently used to conduct (bio-)analytical separations, mainly high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and capillary LC. These insights are acquired through dedicated experimental techniques on the one hand and through computer simulations of the flow and diffusion on the other hand. Subsequently, these insights are exploited to design and develop improved separation columns and systems. This is either pursued using the latest advancements in the fields of micro-fabrication, polymer synthesis and nano-technology or by making innovative combinations of columns and valves. In some of our latest work, we also try to incorporate smart decision routines into these novel separation systems. In addition we also work on the development of novel detection schemes and have expanded our range of applications to the realm of the life sciences.
